A&D Weighing SV-10 Vibro Viscometer (0.3 – 10,000 mPa·s)
$4,675.00
A&D Weighing SV-10 tuning-fork vibro viscometer — 0.3 to 10,000 mPa·s range, ±5% accuracy, first result in 15 seconds, 2ml minimum sample.
Description
The SV-10 measures viscosity using A&D’s tuning-fork vibration method: two thin sensor plates vibrate at a fixed natural frequency (30Hz) and immerse directly in the sample, and the electrical drive current needed to maintain that vibration — which rises with the fluid’s resistance — is converted directly to a viscosity reading. There’s no spinning spindle, no rotational speed to select, and no separate calibration curve to build for each sample type.
Across its 0.3 to 10,000 mPa·s range, the SV-10 delivers a first result within 15 seconds and then continues to refresh in real time, so it can track a viscosity change as it happens — during a cure, a mixing process, or a temperature ramp — rather than only capturing a single snapshot. Sample volume can be as small as 2ml (in a tube, with the SV-1A accessory) up to standard 35ml cups, and because the sensor plates lower directly into whatever vessel holds the sample, measurements can be taken straight in a beaker or the product’s own container. Repeatability is ±1% of reading, with a stated accuracy of ±5% between 1-100 mPa·s. Temperature can be tracked from 0-160°C, and the low mechanical shear of the vibration method means delicate or shear-sensitive samples aren’t disturbed the way a rotating spindle can disturb them. WinCT-Viscosity software supports PC-based data acquisition, curve graphing, and archiving for labs that need a documented viscosity history rather than a single spot reading.
**Frequently asked questions**
**How is this different from a rotational (spindle) viscometer?** The SV-10 uses two vibrating sensor plates rather than a rotating spindle, so there’s no spindle selection or rotational speed setting to configure per sample — push start and the reading begins. This also means much lower shear is applied to the sample compared to typical rotational methods.
**What’s the smallest sample I can test?** As little as 2ml, using a small tube with the SV-1A accessory; standard cups run from 10ml to 35ml depending on the vessel used.
**How does the SV-10 compare to the SV-100?** They share the same tuning-fork method and hardware, but the SV-10 covers the lower range (0.3-10,000 mPa·s) while the SV-100 is built for higher-viscosity samples (1,000-100,000 mPa·s / 10-1,000 poise).
**Can I calibrate it myself?** Yes — the SV-10 supports simplified, automated 1- or 2-point calibration using pure water.
